Can't find the exact font color you want for your Apple Pages document? Here's how to find and use any color you want in Apple Pages.

Sometimes a pop of color can add a touch of personality or professionalism to a document—if you do so thoughtfully. Color is especially helpful if you’re looking to stay consistent with your branding, or a theme, but finding the exact one you need can be tricky.

In this article, we’ll walk you through how you can get the font color you want in Apple Pages to help you stay consistent in your documents.

How to Get the Exact Font Color You Want in Apple Pages

There are four ways you can get the exact font color you need on Apple pages. If you already have one in mind, you can use the color picker tool in Pages or the Digital Color Meter built into your Mac. If you’re simply looking for more options than the swatches Pages offers, you can head to a website called HTML Color Codes to help you find something you love.

Note that these methods work for formatting the colors in shapes, tables, and charts, whether it’s a solid fill or points in a gradient.

1. Color Picker in Apple Pages

To use the color picker tool in Pages, click the color wheel beside the swatch next to Text Color and select the color sliders option. There, you’ll find the color picker tool at the bottom—it looks like an eyedropper.

Once you click it, you can use the picker in the center of the tool to grab the color of any object on your screen. For example, if you want your header text to be the same color as a logo, you’d open the logo file and use it as your reference. You don’t need to insert the file into Pages for this to work, it just has to be somewhere on your desktop, whether it’s in Finder, Preview, or an internet browser.

2. Digital Color Meter on Your Mac

If you’re not in Pages, but want to make a note on a color for later, use the keyboard shortcut Cmd + Space to bring up Spotlight and search for Digital Color Meter. This tool will tell you the RGB—the levels of red, green, blue—of any color so you can make not of it and type it into Pages RGB Slider under Text Color later.

If you find you like the Digital Color Meter, there are a series of other useful color-picker apps available for Mac. These are worth checking out if you want some extra help with choosing a scheme and keeping your colors handy.

3. HTML Color Codes

You may want to check out HTML Color Codes if you're color shopping. With this online tool, you can explore a color picker to create your own color schemes, choose pre-made colors from a chart, find inspiration in a color library, etc.

Once you have the color you want, make a note of its RGB values or six-digit hex code to enter into Pages later, or use the color dropper in Pages to capture it.

If you want a variation of any color, you can also enter its value into the color picker and use the drop-down menu below the tool to find complementary colors, shades, tints, or other options.

4. Saving Your Color Choice

If you want to keep your custom color accessible, simply drag and drop the swatch beside the color picker into the series of swatches to the right. Each time you use Pages, it will be there as an option.

Add Some Personality to Your Documents

You don’t need to use your logo on every page to keep your branding consistent. Nor do you need excessive formatting or loud fonts to help it stand out. All you need are tasteful color accents throughout your writing in headers, page numbers, or items like tables and charts.

Next time you’re looking to add some color to a document, why not give one of these methods a try and choose something custom?
